The Challenge

The Challenge

Before the redesign, RGO faced a pressing need to reinvent a workspace that genuinely reflected the ways people work and connect. One of the project’s biggest challenges was designing for a wide range of team needs within the same footprint. Different teams required different workspace sizes, levels of privacy, storage needs, and work surface requirements. At the same time, the space needed more meeting areas to support deep focus and privacy while maintaining or increasing the number of workstations. existing space was limited in its ability to facilitate collaboration within teams, current clients, and prospective clients. To address these challenges meaningfully, RGO leveraged a series of workshops and integrated Workplace Tools+Resources (WT+R) as hands-on, interactive experiences. These sessions invited the resident teams into a guided discovery process, making Steelcase research more relatable and actionable, prompting participants to consider all aspects of their work experience.

Through WT+R activities, participants identified key issues and opportunities shaping their daily mode of work. They also helped define what success would look like for the refreshed space and reflected on what aspects of the existing space were effective or needed improvement. This collaborative process established clear objectives, such as:

  • Supporting evolving team structures
  • Accommodating various work modes
  • Balancing diverse user needs
  • Providing more workstations for future growth
  • Creating new collaboration zones
  • Dedicating spaces for focused, heads-down work

The initial vision was ambitious: move beyond a mere visual refresh to establish an environment that would inspire visitors, equip employees with the tools they need, and reinforce RGO’s commitment to community-based design. Ultimately, the project aimed to reshape not just the physical space, but also how teams work together and how the showroom supports collaboration and enhances client experience.

The Solution

The Solution

RGO’s solution was anchored in Steelcase’s modes of work and shaped by intentional, community-oriented design. Using an insight-led planning methodology, we created an environment that supports diverse needs in real time. Work pods for focus and small meetings were placed where teams naturally need privacy, while informal collaboration pockets encourage quick connection without disruption. Angular enclaves maximize natural light and protect visual privacy, giving people control over how open or tucked away they want to be. The result is a mixed-use environment that personalizes the experience, reinforces belonging, and stays resilient through change.

The space distinctly reflects the RGO identity through thoughtfully integrated art-inspired features, advanced technology, and innovative materials, all curated to present a cohesive aesthetic. The technology infrastructure is engineered to facilitate seamless connectivity, accommodate hybrid meetings and digital interactions, and enhance collaboration while remaining adaptable for the future.

Results

Results

By grounding decisions in Workplace Tools & Resources and applying community-based design, RGO transformed the previous space into a flexible workplace that supports multiple work modes and future growth. While some changes were harder to adjust to at first, aligning around the broader vision, especially the gain of more meeting and collaboration spaces, rejuvenation areas, and settings, helped build buy-in and meet the team’s overarching needs. By modifying existing workstations footprints, we were able to increase the number of workstations, collaboration, social spaces, heads-down focus rooms and meeting rooms, while maintaining the same physical foot print.

Since the completion of the project, the redesigned showroom has delivered measurable improvements. Team structures are more effectively supported, employees now have access to tools and resources that enable them to collaborate, focus, and innovate within a flexible environment. The number of tours for existing and potential clients has increased, reflecting heightened interest and engagement. Employee productivity has risen, supported by more meeting spaces and a stronger emotional connection to the workspace and creating a space for growth.
